Thin client software is generally sought after because it is very easy to deploy and maintain. Thin client systems can be run from a central location and changes are easy because you don’t need to run around your enterprise upgrading PCs to the new scheduling platform as new changes and updates are introduced. The rollout process is easy and the maintenance is easy. This is an article you should take a look at if your interested in a Thin Production Scheduling.
In addition to being less difficult, it can be less expensive from maintenance and support perspective. A thin client system can be deployed from a central location. So if you have multiple satellite locations you need only maintain one centralized database and applications server. Fewer servers mean less of a financial burden as well.
So for these reasons it makes all kinds of sense to try to implement a thin solution. The problem is that the offering is still lacking. Production scheduling software vendors that offer a browser based application are still far and few between. We think this is due in large part to the need for advanced optimizations and the need for powerful planning interfaces.
If your looking for a browser based solution you might want to take a look at Tuppas Software or ShopFloorReporting.com these companies offer some pretty nice solutions that are Microsoft based technology. They are also very diverse in their capabilities.
